BLOG 6: Information Literacy | Laboratory

For our meeting today, Mr. Opiana introduced the lesson by asking questions. We had to interpret a quote and write it on a sheet of paper.

Here is my interpretation:

Knowledge is power
Knowledge is power means if one has complete knowledge, he/she can be more powerful in the world and will become invincible. A knowledgeable person becomes powerful by giving him mental, moral and spiritual advancement in the life.

How does knowledge become information?
Information is data processing. Once the information is again processed by an individual using his/her own understanding this becomes his/her own personal knowledge.

State the importance of giving credit to the source of one's work. Elaborate your answer
You will give the readers a chance to verify and understand what the source really meant. It is also a way of respecting the intellectual property right of the source. Thus making you a responsible person. If one does not give credit you are stealing the work of others thus you are committing a crime and that can be punishable by law.

After that we proceeded with our class discussion. We learned about the Ethical Use of Information by being provided with information on quoting, paraphrasing and citing the work of others and recognizing and avoiding plagiarism.

We were then given an assignment where we are to plan an academic field trip with 2 possible options

Here is my plan:

I learned that it is hard to plan an academic trip because lots of research must be done. In acquiring information we must be careful because some might be false. We should trust credible sources in order to stay safe.

I then wrote an essay about an information literate individual not exceeding 100 words.

An information literate individual is capable of engaging with other users effectively. I consider myself as an information literate individual because an individual knows that not all information being shared through media is true thus it requires checking the credibility of the source. He or she is also conscious of the emergence of new forms of information. They have the ability find, evaluate and use information with caution.
